Senator Ngo recognizes the 30th Anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre
June 4, 2019
Today, Senator Thanh Hai Ngo issued the following statement regarding the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre:
“Today marks the 30th anniversary of the violent atrocities that were carried out by the Chinese government against its peaceful and pro-democracy citizens in and around Beijing’s Tiananmen Square on June 4, 1989.
“In one of the darkest chapters in China’s modern history, thousands of Chinese protestors are said to have been shot indiscriminately, while others were severely injured or imprisoned for several years.
“As Canadians and citizens around the world commemorate this horrific massacre, we honour the thousands of students and workers who stood up for democracy and greater social freedoms and international recognized human rights standards in China.
“The 30th Anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre is a milestone opportunity for Canada and other countries to hold Chinese foreign corrupt officials accountable when they are profiting from serious human right violations against minorities such as the ethnic Uighurs, Falun Gong, and the Tibetan people.
