Rally for a Free Vietnam on Parliament Hill

On Saturday June 8th, Senator Ngo attended the 2013 International General Choi Memorial Cup Tae Kwon Do tournament at the Woodroffe Gymnasium of the Algonquin College, where he met various community members, athletes, organizers and other VIP guests. Senator Ngo was pleased to see the participation of students, athletes and parents from 10 different countries and across Canada. He also gave special congratulations to the Grand Masters promoting the art of Taekwondo in Canada, with special thanks to Senior Grand Master Phap Ken Lu. Senator Ngo commends the philosophy of Taekwondo, which embraces the unity of both mind and body to form a healthy, peaceful and powerful art.

In the afternoon, Senator Thanh Hai Ngo attended the Rally For a Free Vietnam, on Parliament Hill, calling for the release of three Vietnamese activist arrested and tried in Vietnam. It was hosted by the Organizing Committee to Support Vietnam’s Democracy and Human Rights Movement, and the Vietnamese Community in Montreal Organizing Committee. Speaking at the Rally, Senator Ngo expressed the importance of getting the Vietnamese youth involved with community efforts and causes, and taking an active role in it. Minister Jason Kennedy, Mr. Royal Galipeau, M.P., Mr. Paul Dewar, M.P., as well interns Yvonne Nguyen, Dessa Nguyen, and Marc-Andre Kieu, also spoke at the Rally, thanking the contributions and efforts of all Vietnamese-Canadians and the importance of speaking out against human rights violations in Vietnam. The Rally then proceeded to a protest in front of the Vietnamese embassy in Ottawa.
