Journey to Freedom Day in Brampton
April 20, 2019
Senator Ngo was invited by the Republic of Vietnam Veterans Association of Ontario (VVAO), in collaboration with the many Vietnamese Canadian community groups in Brampton, to attend the first-ever Flag-Raising Ceremony at Brampton City Hall in honour of Journey to Freedom Day.
Journey to Freedom Day commemorates the hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese refugees who fled Vietnam after the Fall of Saigon in 1975 and made their way to Canada in search of peace and freedom – and a better life. On this day, we officially recognize the modern beginnings of the Vietnamese community in Canada and celebrate their many contributions to Canadian society.
Senator Ngo was honoured to raise the historic Vietnamese Heritage and Freedom flag in Brampton, and offers his special thanks to Mr. Minh Dong, President of the VVAO, the organizing committee, community leaders, volunteers, and everyone involved in making this special event possible.
