Senator Ngo Celebrates the Vietnamese New Year in Montreal

Montréal, February 5, 2013 – Senator Thanh Hai Ngo and the Montreal Vietnamese community welcomed the Honourable Jason Kenney to the Vietnamese New Year celebration in Montreal on February 3. Opposition leader Thomas Mulcair and Members of Parliament Hoang Mai, Anne Minh Thu Quach and Irwin Cotler were also present at the annual festival.

“Têt is an important time of the year for our community. This passage from one year to another makes us reflect on the past and invites us to think about the future,” said Senator Ngo to the 4,000 Vietnamese-Canadians at Montréal’s Pierre Charbonneau Centre. “It is also a joyous occasion to celebrate with friends and family.”

The Senator had the privilege of introducing the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism as a friend of the Vietnamese community and a strong supporter for their campaign for freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Vietnam.

During the ceremony, Senator Ngo acknowledged the contributions and achievements of Vietnamese-Canadians Dr. Thu Van Lam and lawyer Anh-Thu Duc Tran with Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals.
