Vietnam Human Rights Awards 2012

On arrival, Senator Ngo attended a wine and cheese event where he met with various community members, religious leaders, Buddhist monks and lawyers from Montreal. On December 9th 2012, the Vietnam Human Rights Network, in cooperation with the Vietnamese Community in Montreal, held its annual Vietnam Human Rights Awards Ceremony to honour local activists Pham Thanh Nghien, Ta Phong Tan and Huynh Thuc Vy and celebrate the cause of freedom in Vietnam. The Senator commended the members of the first generation Vietnamese-Canadians, acknowledging their long and hard work and efforts. He called upon the first generation to undertake the fundamental responsibility of reiterating the stories of their suffering to the younger generations so that the youth remember their cultural heritage that defines and impacts their lives. In the evening, Senator Ngo met with members of the Montreal Vietnamese Community for a Question-and-answer period on various issues.
