Jade Buddha in Toronto

The Linh Son Buddhist Community of Ontario honoured the holy presence of the Jade Buddha for Universal Peace, a day of pilgrimage and prayer for peace. Saturday July 19th was their opening ceremony, one of the biggest events celebrated by Vietnamese. Senator Ngo represented the Canadian government by giving a speech at the event

“The statue is based on a design of Gautama Buddha in Bodh Gaya, India, where it is believed the spiritual founder of Buddhism was enlightened in the 4th century BCE.
“The countenance of this Buddha seems to exude a peaceful energy,” Green said.
Dr. Hien Le, 50 of Mississauga said it was important for her to see the statue in person.
“As a Buddhist, it is important to see and appreciate Buddha and the statue reminds me of the teachings of Buddha and to lead a meaningful life,” she said.” (thestar.com) Full Article
