SENATOR NGO ENCOURAGES VIETNAMESE-CANADIANS TO UNITE AS ONE VOICE AT OTTAWA TOWN HALL MEETING

OTTAWA, December 17, 2012 – Senator Thanh Hai Ngo was the guest speaker at a town hall meeting on December 15 at the McNabb Community Centre. The event, hosted by the Vietnamese Canadian Community of Ottawa, gave local Vietnamese residents an opportunity ask questions and raise issues with their newly appointed Senator.

Senator Ngo focused much of his attention on the community’s dynamic youth. “As a political figure, I wish to collaborate closely with them and encourage them to get involved in Canadian politics,” he said. During his speech, Senator Ngo directed questions at the second and third generations of Vietnamese-Canadians.

“How did you get here? Where are you from? What are you doing now? What do you want to do? And how will you accomplish this?” he asked. “You must know where you come from, in order to know where you want to go,” Senator Ngo said.

The Senator also encouraged Vietnamese-Canadians across the country to unite as one voice in order to promote human rights and denounce the systemic corruption that cripples Vietnam. He concluded the meeting by presenting Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals to three prominent community leaders, and by acknowledging the contributions of university students and volunteers with certificates of appreciation.
